Liguori Academy Receives Funding for Workforce Development Program
(Philadelphia, June 11, 2019)- Liguori Academy, is among the organizations selected to receive grant funding from Philadelphia Works, Inc., a non-profit organization that invests in employment and training solutions to increase economic opportunity for all Philadelphians.
Liguori will use this investment to fund its newest initiative for students, a workforce development program. Students will complete career-focused curriculum, professional training workshops, and have opportunities to participate in internships with local business partners.
The workshops, conducted by the school’s teachers and administrators as well as industry professionals, are designed to provide students with the knowledge and training they will need to succeed in their future careers. The students will also have the option to participate in internships or apprenticeships, which will allow them to explore future career options while they are still enrolled in school.
In June, Liguori will hold a Workforce Development Summer Boot Camp to teach students soft skills they will use in their future careers. Students will receive a certificate upon their completion of the program. After this one-week program, Liguori will continue to offer students options to improve their work skills over the summer. The school will host “Walk-In Wednesdays”, during which students will complete career workshops and activities.
The workforce development program will serve as the next step in advancing the school’s mission, to prepare future leaders through individualized learning and address the disparity that exists in the 19134 zip code.
