Career & College Readiness at Liguori Academy

Philadelphia, PA, June 23, 2025 – At Liguori Academy, career and college readiness is a cornerstone of the educational experience. Beginning in 9th grade, students begin their discovery process, exploring passions and potential pathways through rigorous academic curriculum and industry informed career cohorts.

As Liguori students progress to 11th and 12th grade, they are required to complete at least one off-site internship prior to graduation. Thanks to funding from JEVS Human Services, Liguori Academy participates in Career Connected Learning PHL, a local initiative that provides Philadelphia youth with work-based learning opportunities and career exposure. This generous grant enables Liguori Academy to compensate student interns for their work and support their transportation needs. These internship opportunities allow students to apply the professional skills they have been developing since 9th grade in their workforce development course. Spearheaded by Liguori Academy’s Student Success Coordinator and postsecondary team, the school has been able to not only support student interns in the fall, spring, and summer, but gain valuable relationships with local organizations. Each internship is carefully matched to align with the individual student’s interests and goals.

Liguori Academy’s mission is to ensure every student is equipped with real-world experience and the confidence needed to thrive beyond high school. This year, every participating student gained valuable firsthand insight into the possibilities that await them after graduation. Liguori Academy is deeply grateful to the many community industry partners who made this possible, dedicating their time and expertise to mentor and guide interns on their postsecondary path.

As the academic year has concluded, students have taken time to reflect on their internship experiences. They have shared what they have learned through the course of their internships this year, expressing their growth and personal discovery. Here is what a few of them had to say:

Asia – LB Capital

“During my time at LB Capital, a private equity firm in the Bristol area, I had the opportunity to learn, grow, and build bonds. I got to see how someone in HR managed everything, including the onboarding process and handling paperwork. Overseeing this gave me a better understanding of the management side of the company. I discovered that I enjoyed HR related tasks like organizing documents and using fancy office tools, but I also realized that I prefer a more up and moving work environment rather than being in an office all day.

LB Capital provided me with a warm and welcoming environment. The employees were all so kind and made me feel like a huge part of the team. Whether it was light conversation with them to helping them fill out paperwork, I was always busy and involved. During my time there I also grew to form a bond with a fellow classmate, and I got to experience what it felt like to have a friend in a workplace setting. This internship provided me with my thoughts about myself and what work environments would be best for me.”

Anastasia – REC Philly

“My internship at REC Philly was an amazing experience. I learned so much about myself, about others, and about life. REC Philly is a space filled with a bunch of amazing people and specialized rooms available to rent out for any creative reason. During my internship I learned about podcasts, music, teamwork, and more. I got to learn how to set up a podcast, what to use and what not to use. During my internship I grew my knowledge not only on technology and podcasting but also on my creativity and how life really is.

At REC Philly we had the chance to read an amazing book called Uncommon Sense: Your Strategy Guide to Creative Freedom. This book is what helped me learn more about myself and how I relate to others. REC Philly helped me figure out what I can improve on by helping me learn about myself, my peers, and valuable skills that can help me in the future.”

Corrie – Ben Rossman, LLC.

“As CMO for the Reality Bombshell podcast team, I was in charge of our social media. I made the images, planned posts, and helped grow our audience. It was really cool to see how much social media can help a podcast reach more people. I learned the importance of learning your audience and how to work with others to keep things running smoothly. This experience also helped me realize how much I enjoy creative work and that I want to keep exploring marketing in the future.”

Jesus – Alterra Property Group

“While interning at Alterra Property Group, I learned a lot about how the real estate business works, especially the process of selling an apartment. One of the biggest things I gained was more confidence in talking to clients and coworkers. This experience helped me improve my ability to work in a professional setting and gave me a better understanding of how things run at work. It was a great chance for me to grow!”

Koi - PeopleShare

“During my time at PeopleShare and as an intern I learned so much about not just the company but professional business skills I know I’ll need in my future. Throughout the internship, PeopleShare helped me to learn more about the process of career recruitment and matching people to jobs. I’ve learned so much about professionalism, people skills, communication, and time management through this experience.”

Liguori Academy expresses gratitude to JEVS and the partners who worked with our students to give them a true experience of the professional world. Beyond gaining practical insight into potential career paths, students have built critical communication skills, formed meaningful professional connections, developed essential organizational and administrative skills, and gained the confidence to pursue their futures with purpose. Together we are shaping the next generation of professionals, and the future looks bright!
