Liguori in the News: Neighborhood Revitalization Effort with Habitat for Humanity
Philadelphia, PA, October 1, 2026 - Liguori Academy
Liguori Academy students join more than 140 volunteers for Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia’s Building on Faith project.
Recently, eleven Liguori Academy Construction Cohort students and their teacher, Mr. John, volunteered for a day of service with Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia’s Building on Faith project. The block build brought together local faith organizations, high schools, colleges, and neighborhood organizations to support home repairs and neighborhood revitalization in Brewerytown.
The effort is part of the broader Pope Leo Village initiative, a multi-city movement that brings people from different backgrounds together to support affordable housing and strengthen communities.
Students worked alongside Habitat Philadelphia staff, neighborhood residents, and fellow volunteers to complete critical home repairs, painting projects, landscaping, and block clean-up. As part of the project, four homes will be fully renovated and sold to first-time home buyers through Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program.
Liguori Academy senior Kendal reflected on the experience during an interview with WHYY and Habitat Philadelphia, saying, “I’ve done service work before, but never hands-on like this. I like it. It makes me feel good that I’m helping somebody out. My mom always taught me to give back to the community and don’t forget where you come from.”
Experiences like this bring Liguori Academy’s commitment to workforce readiness, hands-on learning, and service to life. Students are not simply learning construction in the classroom. They are putting those skills into practice alongside professionals while making a meaningful difference in their community.
