All the World’s a Stage: Liguori’s Drama Club Makes Its Debut with Romeo and Juliet
April 2026 - The Alphonsus Post
This is the Alphonsus Post’s first year, and we are delighted to report on another exciting first: Liguori’s brand new Drama Club. Founded and directed by English teacher Ms. Maggie McKay, the club is a testament to her dedication to the arts, theater, and her students’ creativity.
For the club’s debut, Ms. Maggie chose a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet. The Shakespearean classic about two lovers from rival families and their tragic end is sure to be something special, and we cannot wait to see it this month.
We interviewed Ms. Maggie and two students playing the lead roles, and what we got was eye-opening insight into what it takes to start a brand new club from scratch and the valuable perspective of two of Liguori’s most creative students. We started by asking Ms. Maggie what made her want to start a drama club. She told us, “theater is a lifelong passion of mine. When I became a teacher, I realized how much I love passing that onto the next generation of actors and students.” She also spoke about finding her footing with a brand new group. “You always have to find your new rhythm with a new group of students, but we’ve found a good place and I’m confident in where we are going. We grow together, and I think that’s the important part.”
Next we spoke to Samair, who plays Romeo, and asked what makes the club special to him. He told us, “This is somewhere I can come to express myself, because I have a teacher and a director who loves to be in her class and someone who can help me grow.”
Finally we talked to Emi, who plays Juliet. Emi does theater outside of school at the Arden Theater and plans to major in theater in college. When asked about the club’s future, she said, “I love drama. It’s a great addition to the school and an opportunity for more artistic expression. I would love to see how it progresses going forward.”
What we at the Alphonsus Post got from this was a glimpse into the creative spirit alive at Liguori Academy.
Come see it for yourself!
