A Message From Our President
Celebrating 10 Year of Boundless Love
Fellow Liguorians,
As we approach August 1, I wanted to wish everyone a happy Feast Day of St. Alphonsus Liguori. This year, however, August 1 has a little more meaning for us.
It officially begins the 10th anniversary year of Liguori Academy.
Ten years. Hard to believe.
On August 1, we are part of something much bigger than our school. Throughout the world, thousands of people will celebrate the Feast of St. Alphonsus Liguori. In communities inspired by Alphonsus, the day is marked by festivals, gatherings, prayer, thanksgiving, service, and time together as a community. Many will return to the writings of Alphonsus, who was a prolific writer whose works on faith, morality, prayer, and the dignity of the human person continue to be read and studied nearly 240 years after his death.
And here in Kensington, we celebrate him in our own way: by doing the work.
Alphonsus built his life around going to people who were overlooked, meeting them where they were, and refusing to believe that someone's circumstances determined their future. His message was one of Boundless Love: recognize the dignity in every person, see the potential others may miss, and never give up on someone.
Sound familiar?
We may have better technology than Alphonsus had, although some days that is debatable, but the mission has not changed. Every time you give a student another chance, stay late to help, an administrator finds a way around an obstacle, or a staff member reminds a student that they belong here, we are celebrating Alphonsus. We may not always call it that, but that is exactly what we are doing.
And what a way to begin our 10th year.
Liguori has recently been selected for significant, highly competitive workforce investments at both the state and federal levels. Through Governor Josh Shapiro's administration, we received a Schools-to-Work grant to strengthen the connection between education, employers, credentials, internships, and careers. At the federal level, the U.S. Department of Labor selected Liguori for YouthBuild, allowing us to expand our work with young people through education, workforce training, leadership, service, and pathways to meaningful careers.
Those opportunities did not happen overnight. They are the result of ten years of people believing that education can look different and working incredibly hard to make it happen. As we say here at Liguori, education cannot be a one size fits all.
As we celebrate ten years, I hope we are proud of where we started and how far we have come. But I am even more excited about the next 10.
Same mission. Same Boundless Love.
So, on August 1, know that somewhere people around the world will be celebrating Alphonsus through prayer, service, and community. Here at Liguori, we celebrate with him every day through our students.
Happy Feast Day. Happy 10th anniversary year. Here is to the next 10.
In Liguori,
Mchael Marrone
