From Kensington to the Caribbean: A Journey Beyond the Classroom

Philadelphia, PA, July 10, 2026 - Liguori Academy

Philadelphia, PA — Liguori Academy is proud to celebrate the successful completion of the first From Kensington to the Caribbean Expedition with SailFuture, a nationally recognized nonprofit that empowers young people through international sailing expeditions, adventure-based counseling, job training, and educational programming.

Beginning on June 22, a group of Liguori Academy students embarked on the adventure of a lifetime aboard the S/Y Whatever It Takes, SailFuture’s 100-foot sailing vessel, departing from Barbados for an eight-day expedition through the Caribbean.

Throughout the journey, students learned the fundamentals of sailing while building leadership, teamwork, resilience, and confidence. From emergency drills and sharing daily responsibilities aboard the vessel to completing a community service project in Barbados, each day challenged students to step beyond their comfort zones, embrace new experiences, and discover new strengths.

While the expedition was filled with unforgettable moments, its greatest impact can’t be measured in nautical miles traveled. The lessons students learned about perseverance, communication, responsibility, adaptability, and trust will remain with them beyond the expedition. One student sailor, Reilly, captured this experience in a personal reflection. Read Reilly’s story to learn how this extraordinary journey transformed her perspective and became an experience she’ll never forget.

Liguori Academy extends its heartfelt gratitude to SailFuture and the dedicated crew of the S/Y Whatever It Takes for welcoming our students aboard and creating an environment where they could grow, explore, and thrive. Their commitment to experiential learning and youth development made this life-changing opportunity possible.
